Age produces character. Properly nurturing and developing that character takes time. It is a fabric woven through the years with patience, attention, and an understanding of all of the individual pieces that come together to create the bigger picture. You have to be in constant consideration of these things if you hope to affect the end result. There's an immense story behind each character. For Johnnie Walker, it's a generational family pastime culminating in a shallow puddle of liquid resting in a small glass. A character you smell, taste, and experience.
